Caregiver Haven

A Listening & Creative Arts Community for Those Who Care for Others

Donate to Build a Haven
for Caregivers

Your contribution will make it possible for The Good Listening Project (TGLP) to launch Caregiver Haven in January 2025. The program will support informal caregivers—those who provide care for loved ones by assisting with activities of daily living and/or medical tasks without formal training or support systems–through the restorative power of listening, poetry, and community. This includes one-on-one Listener Poet sessions and monthly “Poetry Corner for Caregivers” gatherings. We’ll also publish a Caregiver Chronicles Anthology to humanize their experiences and amplify their stories.

In our first year, we aim to reach and support at least 150 caregivers nationwide, including but not limited to individuals caring for loved ones with chronic conditions such as diabetes or cancer, those supporting family members with disabilities, caregivers looking after elderly spouses, parents or relatives, and those providing end-of-life care for people in hospice or facing terminal illnesses.

This initiative will offer caregivers a much-needed space for reflection, emotional release, and peer support, counteracting the isolation often associated with caregiving. Importantly, all program services will be provided at no cost to the participants.

The Need

More than 50 million adults in the U.S. currently serve as caregivers for a loved one. Over the past year, we've received an overwhelming number of requests to support these caregivers through our healing arts work. We are listening and Caregiver Haven is our response. Caregivers are the backbone of long-term care in the U.S., providing $600 billion in unpaid labor annually—more than all out-of-pocket healthcare spending (AARP). Over 60% balance caregiving with jobs, leading to widespread stress. Caregivers from marginalized communities face even greater burnout due to systemic inequities. Caregiver Haven offers a sanctuary, providing emotional support and connection tailored to their needs.

Goals

  1. Empower and support caregivers by providing ongoing, no-cost access to one-on-one Listener Poet sessions: Caregivers will have access to one-on-one listener poet sessions at no cost to them, providing a nonjudgmental space for sharing their stories and experiences. Listener Poets then transform their stories into custom poems, with the intention to help caregivers feel seen, supported, and valued.

  2. Build community among caregivers through monthly poetry and connection gatherings: Our “Poetry Corner for Caregivers” will serve as a regular gathering space where caregivers can share their poems with one another, engage in creative writing, and build relationships in a supportive community.

  3. Humanize caregiver experiences by publishing a Caregiver Chronicles Poetry Anthology: This collection will raise awareness of caregiver needs by humanizing their stories and sharing them in a custom poetry anthology, highlighting their diverse lived experiences and resilience. This anthology will be distributed to advocacy organizations and caregivers in hospitals or other settings.

Program Sponsorship

Our goal is to raise $50,000 to launch Caregiver Haven, with various sponsorship levels available to support Listener Poet sessions, monthly gatherings, and the Caregiver Chronicles Anthology. Program sponsors will be recognized in Caregiver Haven marketing materials, the anthology, and on TGLP’s website.
