The Cedars-Sinai Community Honors Henrietta Lacks' Legacy

On Friday, March 28th, Cedars-Sinai hosted the Henrietta Lacks Symposium, a special event that also highlighted the release of a new anthology featuring poems by Listener Poets from The Good Listening Project (TGLP).

This collection, inspired by one-on-one sessions with 13 women from the Cedars-Sinai community, captures both their personal and professional experiences, as well as their reflections on Henrietta Lacks’ enduring legacy.

The poems offer a multi-layered narrative that speaks to the ongoing need for health equity and justice. This collaboration between TGLP and Cedars-Sinai underscores both organizations’ commitment to advancing research, health equity, and the dignity of all people.

The symposium brought together distinguished voices, including the Lacks family and author Rebecca Skloot, to honor Mrs. Lacks’ contributions and reflect on our shared responsibility to ensure ethical practices in medical research. The anthology serves as both a tribute to Henrietta Lacks and a powerful reminder of the critical importance of health justice today.
