There are so many different reasons for listening. In this series, we’re presenting a range of inquiries as a way to think about how and why we listen, and how our intentions affect the experience.
Today we’re asking: How can we listen to relate?
What happens when we reflect back what someone has said before replying with our thoughts?
How can conversations change when we make the effort to repeat back what another person has said?
What does it feel like to hear your own words reflected back by someone else?
Phrases like these can help create space for reflective listening: “It sounds like you feel…” or “I hear you saying this… is that right?”
